New Heights in Boudoir: My Mentor Weekend
Hey friend! I’ve been up to a lot of new, exciting things that I just can’t NOT share with you. So for me, the beginning of the year is all about expansion. Leveling up the business. As a part of this, every year I fly out a mentor photographer to elevate my game. This year, I worked with Jacqui, owner of Passio Photography. I previously attended one of Jacqui’s workshops in Florida, where she traveled from, and fell in love. I originally met her in Aruba on another boudoir photographer retreat. Her creative brain, use of lighting, and personality just meshed so well with mine. I loved that she promotes boudoir is not just about posing. It’s about getting into that sexy space of mind, enjoying yourself, and telling a story.
Expansion Month
Let’s dive into our weekend. As per expansion month, I had been working on two different rooms to add new sets to before Jacqui came. I knew I wanted to bounce ideas off of her as to what we wanted to do with the rooms. We moved in a couch from outside (in -10 degree weather), and let it thaw for our photoshoot the next day. It may have been a tad bit wet, but we all sat on it like it didn’t smell like it had been snowed on. Jacqui helped elevate three rooms total. The lingerie closet, the green room, and the shower. Showing me endless ways to pose, create scenes, and narratives.
Shoot Day Quests
Moving onto our adventures. Shoot day. Jacqui introduced me to Story Telling; my newest bonus set. We shot several sequences of Story Telling with my model. Jacqui taught my model how to express emotion through the photos; how to really tell a story. The importance of breathing and creating a whole narrative. Connecting with your model and creating a safe, comfortable environment is key. Our poses help you feel confident in the motion. Feeling good and looking good while doing it. Did I mention Jacqui shot my corporate photos? Once in a lifetime opportunity. I love them.
Snowy outdoor Shoot
Bright and early the next day we were at it again with a snowy outdoor photoshoot. An expedition. The weather ranged from -9 to -19 degrees F. With very little clothes, it tends to be a challenge. I even got the honor of shooting my mentor. My Florida sunshine girl withstood 15 full minutes nude in -9 degrees. She is an absolute powerhouse, our queen. After our shoots came editing. Seeing the way another photographer edits is pure magic. Did I mention we went to 3 different bars? Jacqui saw her first bar fight 😂.
What I took Away
Jacqui’s art flows with cosmic energy. I was drawn to her. I have learned that I am never above learning from someone younger than me. I loved her style of shooting and wanted to incorporate that into mine. I always hope to grow. The fact that our souls match energy was the biggest plus. She has such an artistic mind that I admire. I gained so much insight from that.
